Peter and Wolf followed by Augustine

I've concluded that daily blogging is not necessarily (or, not likely) going to happen. I'll try to post often and will include multiple days at times.

In music, we listened to Peter and the Wolf  while working on coloring sheets of string instruments.
The coloring sheets will be compiled in a book to help us remember members of the string family.
Caleb did his own thing:
In art, we worked on line designs to help reinforce vertical, horizontal, and diagonal.
We read about Augustine in our book, The ABCs of Church History, and then the boys pin-pointed Hippo on a world map.
Today ended with some baking. Yummy!

Maps and More

Before starting our new lesson on geography, we did a quick review of last week's lesson on the solar system. With no prompts, Noah began singing our solar system song, "Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto...Nine planets revolve around the sun." As an aside, we did talk about Pluto now being considered a dwarf planet, but I didn't think it necessary to change the song.
Our new lesson focused on maps. After a bit of reading, the boys prepared to create a map of our garden. They viewed from above:
and then created a map, complete with a color-coded key:

We're learning the basic elements of art. This week's lesson was on "line."
The boys demonstrate a horizontal line:
They practiced drawing various types of vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines:

Curious George and the String Family

We had our first music lesson today. The boys were incredibly attentive while we learned about and listened to members of the string family of instruments. After the lesson, they each had a chance to try out our new lap harp.
Cooper will begin doing reading comprehension and other activities related to books that we're reading. Today we read the original Curious George.

Day 2: Lesson in Chaos Management

I decided to read to the little guys while Cooper finished a review activity. This allowed him some uninterrupted time to work and kept Noah and Caleb content - breakthrough for all of us.
We began studying the universe (think macro, not micro level) yesterday in geography. The boys correctly ordered the planets in our solar system and then worked on a coloring sheet.
Our science lesson today was on animal body parts. After reading and discussing from our textbook, Cooper read a related reader.
