Snails

Hands-on nature lessons are so much fun!
Lizzie is recording her observations/ snail measurements.

Noah's feeling the snail's movements.

Cooper, Alice, and Florence are watching the snail move from below. Cornstarch was applied to the glass in hopes of an eating demonstration, but the snails were not interested.

Why is everyone cheering?

Because a snail has nearly reached the finish line of his ramp race. The children guessed his time and then recorded his actual time of completion.

Finally, there were snail races. The big guys always won.

Dough Animals

We read about the Limbourg brothers, medieval master illuminators and painters, who worked for the Duke of Berry. The Duke commissioned the brothers to paint what they saw in and around his castles including the many animals that he had collected from around the world.
The Reid brothers made their own modeling clay and then created an animal.
Ingredients are ready.

Everyone gets a turn to mix.

Everyone has a go at kneading.

After the dough animals were baked and cooled, painting commenced.

Roman Mosaics

A little history project...

Caleb

My little man now likes writing his name. He loves to practice writing on these nifty wipe-off sentence strips that we brought back from the States.
