Bugs, Birds and Butterflies

Last Friday, the boys enjoyed a trip to Millets Farm Centre where they participated in "Bugs, Birds and Butterflies." Each child painted a wooden birdhouse, decorated a bug bookmark, and had juice and a cookie. They left with a goodie bag which included "Wild Bird Fat Balls," a pack of carrot seeds, a pack of  Cornsuckle flower seeds, a poster, and tid bits of information.

Long Story Short

I am so excited to have found a children's devotion book that I really like. I typically do the devotion with the boys before we start school. Often, it's done while still sitting around the breakfast table.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE!

The book is available on Amazon.co.uk. You can check out sample pages here on Amazon.com.

Greek Alphabet Books

The boys worked on the first few pages of their Greek alphabet books.
Each page has a black outline of the lower-case Greek letter.
Below that is a space to write the name of the letter.
At the bottom are spaces for practice writing.

 Caleb entertained himself with play-doh.
It's nice having him at the table even when he's not participating in school.

Noah used vehicles to practice ordinals:
We listened to music from around the world.
The boys located the various countries of origin:

Frog and Toad All Year

We did a simple finger-painting activity after reading the chapter "The Surprise." To remember the leaves scattered about Frog and Toad's gardens, the boys used their paints to add leaves to the tree and piles of leaves on the ground. Caleb joined us on this one. He's always keen to take part in our messy activities.

American Folk Music

The boys identified various instruments associated with folk music, and then Cooper requested his violin/fiddle.

We read/chanted Miss Mary Mack - Caleb's favorite part of the lesson.

Melody, Luther, and Grammar

We focused on melody in music last week.
Here, the boys are experiencing melody as they walk up and down the stairs to the tune of Mary had a Little Lamb.

Our church history book was supplemented by this great read:
Today, Cooper played "Who did What?" to work on subject/predicate.

Thursday with Friends

We're now enjoying a weekly get-together with our friends, the Boltons. They are also homeschooling, but, at this point, we're simply playing and eating lunch together. Our Thursday outings have been super for teacher and students.
Florence and Alice (Can you tell they're twins?)
 Kirsty read to the gang.
Almost everyone seems to be enjoying the story.
