Silly Putty, Planting, Vivaldi, and Maps

Caleb used his silly putty to cover letters.
During our lunch break, Cooper and Caleb did some planting.

Another great find! We picked this book (and accompanying cd) up at the library.

We worked on directions in geography.

Caleb goes to University

University College, that is. Nick had to register and decided to take Caleb with him. He was a very big boy.
The big boys are ready.

Off they go to catch the bus.

Noah has started using All About Spelling. He really likes working with the letter tiles.

Surprise in the Mail!

We were sitting down on the rug for circle time and heard a knock on the door. A delivery man was waiting with two unexpected boxes. Such fun! We did finish our lesson before tearing into the boxes.
What can it be? What can it be?!?!

School Supplies!

Silly boy with Silly Putty. Noah thought this one up.

A bit of the plunder...I don't think we'll need to re-stock some of this for years!

More goodies

After reading Peter Rabbit, the boys used their new crayons to complete a coloring page.
THANK YOU, GIGI AND PAPAW!!!!

Our New School Room

Our third bedroom (think walk-in closet size) was Nick's study and has now been converted to a school room. We won't be able to do all of our schooling here due to space, but the room does offer a nice spot for storage/organization and individual work.
Cooper was checking out his new mini office.

Yep, that's the same bookcase/cabinet that's visible in the above photo.   The furniture was listed on gumtree and fits perfectly. Yay!
I'm super excited about having a space devoted to school!

A trip to the post office

Noah had a lot of writing to do.
After finishing our Postal Bible School lessons, we walked to the Post Office to mail them.

Vowels

Cooper's been working on the long-oo and short-oo vowel sounds this week.
Noah sat in for the fun part of this lesson.

Caleb found something more exciting to do.

Today, Cooper sorted cards into the appropriate long-oo or short-oo pile.

Puzzled about Posts

School last week was not terribly exciting for blog posts. We've been focusing mainly on math, reading, and handwriting and will continue to do so until the new school year. Here's one sweet shot of Caleb. He's pulled out his number puzzles on several occasions and enjoys putting them together.

A few pictures from this week

Cooper worked on spelling words with the long-U vowel sound.
Here, he's rearranging letters to spell huge.

More work with the long-U vowel sound. The only way across the river was to jump from one long-U word to another. Caleb's not reading. He just thought the hopping was fun.

The little man is often busting out some tunes.

Color, Color, Everywhere!

The boys love using markers. Caleb ended up with marker on himself
and the table, so he had to switch back to crayons.

Bob and Ladybirds

Noah did some independent reading.

Caleb challenged me to a game of Ladybirds. He won. Legitimately.

Graphs, Consonant Clusters, and Georgie Porgie

Noah continued reading graphs.

Cooper did a worksheet to reinforce beginning consonant clusters.

Caleb did another two-page spread in his nursery rhyme book.
Today's rhyme was "Georgie Porgie."

After school, Cooper caught this delightful spider.

A day's worth of math

Cooper's nearly finished his math for the school year. He typically does one drill sheet (25 addition or subtraction problems) and one worksheet. He's needed very little instruction as the work is still fairly simple.
He likes working in the hall now to limit distraction.

Noah has finished his math workbooks for the school year, so I'm choosing skills to work on daily. We've been doing skip counting and odd/even. Today's lesson was a lot of fun. He was given a flashcard (1-20); bears were counted and paired (for dancing, of course!); he would sing, "Boo hoo hoo, no partner for you!" if there was an odd bear. Each number was recorded as odd or even on a chart. Finally, the even numbers were recorded, in order, on another chart in order to practice skip counting by 2s.

Caleb likes pulling out the math manipulatives.

This is what happens when dad reads a story. He's SO much more fun than me.

Spelling and Painting

Cooper has relocated to the sitting room for some of his work.  The sitting room and dining room are essentially one long room. Still, he says there's less distraction in the sitting room.
Caleb worked diligently on his Pooh painting.
