A day's worth of math

Cooper's nearly finished his math for the school year. He typically does one drill sheet (25 addition or subtraction problems) and one worksheet. He's needed very little instruction as the work is still fairly simple.
He likes working in the hall now to limit distraction.

Noah has finished his math workbooks for the school year, so I'm choosing skills to work on daily. We've been doing skip counting and odd/even. Today's lesson was a lot of fun. He was given a flashcard (1-20); bears were counted and paired (for dancing, of course!); he would sing, "Boo hoo hoo, no partner for you!" if there was an odd bear. Each number was recorded as odd or even on a chart. Finally, the even numbers were recorded, in order, on another chart in order to practice skip counting by 2s.

Caleb likes pulling out the math manipulatives.

This is what happens when dad reads a story. He's SO much more fun than me.

Noah's been progressing well with his reading.

Cooper's displaying his reading record. He and Noah each have one to keep track of books they've read aloud, progress, difficulties, etc.

After school the boys picked flowers for me. Cooper arranged them in a bouquet and wrapped a ribbon (yarn) around them.

Back in the Swing of Things

Our term break coincided with the school holidays in Scotland (since we had Scottish visitors). We've gotten back to work this week and still had time to enjoy the awesome weather.

Noah's been doing some counting by 10s practice work.

Caleb was thrilled to use the tissue art craft he got for his birthday.

He was very proud of his blue, green, and orange lion.

Our garden is in bloom!

The boys have spent most the afternoons outdoors.

Field Trip: Oxford University Museum of Natural History

Nick suggested a field trip on Tuesday, and it was a big success!

The boys enjoyed checking out the various exhibits.

Dinosaurs were a favorite and were also the subject of the boys' worksheets.

Caleb was mesmerized by the DNA model.

Spelling and Painting

Cooper has relocated to the sitting room for some of his work.  The sitting room and dining room are essentially one long room. Still, he says there's less distraction in the sitting room.
